A new report reveals that Greece has huge potential for the development of floating offshore wind energy<\/strong> , which could position it as one of the most attractive markets in Europe. The research was carried out by Norwegian Offshore Wind<\/a><\/strong> in collaboration with ELETAEN and highlights that Greece has the capacity to achieve up to 17.3 GW of offshore wind energy by 2050. <\/p>\n\n

Wind energy in Greece: ambitious goals and challenges in port infrastructure<\/h2>\n\n

Greece\u2019s energy sector has already set ambitious targets, with 1.9 GW planned for 2030 and 6.2 GW for 2035.<\/strong> This progress is supported by European Economic Area (EEA) grants, which seek to boost the development of the wind energy supply<\/a><\/strong> chain in the country. <\/p>\n\n

Norwegian Offshore Wind, which brings together more than 400 industry members, has worked closely with Greece to identify challenges in port and regulatory infrastructure<\/strong> . According to the report, although Greece has key industries such as steel<\/a><\/strong> , cables and shipbuilding<\/a><\/strong> , the lack of preparedness in ports represents a critical challenge. <\/p>\n\n

Greece has all the conditions to become a benchmark in the floating offshore wind energy market. However, regulatory challenges and port infrastructure modernisation need to be addressed. <\/p>\n“This is the case of Gunnar Birkeland, leader of the Norwegian working group in this sector,” said Gunnar Birkeland.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n

In addition, Norway offers its experience in wind farm<\/a><\/strong> management and port modernization, which could help Greece overcome current difficulties and secure its share in this promising market.<\/p>\n\n
