This advance was presented at the Levante UD stadium, with a functional prototype on the team&#8217;s shirt, designed to power wearable devices for health monitoring. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ENERGYM CELL project: Biobatteries that use sweat as energy<\/h2>\n\n<p>The ITE <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ite.es\/i-d-i\/proyectos\/energym-cell\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ENERGYM CELL<\/a><\/strong> project focuses on the <strong>collection of clean energy<\/strong> (energy harvesting) from human sweat. Source: ITE <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>Laura Garc\u00eda Carmona, head of the project, explained that <strong>this biobattery generates 3.5 volts of energy<\/strong> , enough to power several portable devices. The key to the development lies in the optimization of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/articulo\/guide-selection-use-of-coated-electrodes\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"articulo\" data-id=\"169040\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">flexible electrodes<\/a><\/strong> that have been chemically treated to capture and convert the energy of the lactate present in sweat. This advance represents an important innovation in biobattery technology, which until now focused on glucose, a less accessible molecule.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Challenges and solutions in the use of biobatteries in textiles<\/h2>\n\n<p>One of the biggest challenges the development team faced was ensuring the durability of the biobattery during washing. According to the researchers, the electrodes, which can also function as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/researchers-make-flexible-biosensors-by-recycling-gold-cds\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"45740\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">biosensors<\/a><\/strong> , have proven to be resistant to delicate washing. The next challenge will be to improve their durability so that the garments can be washed without affecting their functionality.  <\/p>\n\n<p>The presentation was attended by Ignacio Casado, communications director of ITE, and Joel Gambin, medical director of Levante UD, who highlighted the importance of this project for the future of wearable devices in professional sport.<\/p>\n\n<p>The prototype presented is not only functional, but also economically viable. The materials used are affordable and align with the principles of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/articulo\/impact-corrosion-in-the-circular-economy\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"articulo\" data-id=\"145785\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">circular economy<\/a><\/strong> , facilitating its scalability at a commercial level.
