RWE, a global leader in offshore wind energy<\/a><\/strong> , has unveiled the first Siemens Gamesa-manufactured wind turbine blade for the Sofia project<\/strong> at its Hull, UK facility. This important stage of the 1.4 gigawatt (GW) offshore wind farm reinforces the commitment of both companies to advancing renewable energy and creating jobs in the UK\u2019s coastal areas. <\/p>\n\n

Turbine blade key to the progress of the Sofia wind farm<\/h2>\n\n

The 108-metre-long blade is part of the 100 turbines that will make up the Sofia park. With a power of 14 megawatts (MW) per turbine, the project will have the capacity to supply approximately 1.2 million homes a year<\/strong> with clean, renewable energy<\/a><\/strong> . Tom Glover, president of RWE in the United Kingdom, highlighted the impact of this project on the local economy, stressing that more than 50% of the Sofia investment will go to British suppliers. <\/p>\n\n

In addition, Siemens Gamesa, a subsidiary of Siemens Energy, has expanded its plant in Hull to meet the growing demand of the sector. With more than 1,300 employees, the factory has become a pillar of the offshore wind industry<\/a><\/strong> in the country. According to Darren Davidson, Vice President of Siemens Energy UK, the Sofia project represents a crucial step in the UK’s energy transition. <\/p>\n\n

The Sofia offshore wind farm<\/a><\/strong> is located 195km off the coast of north-east England on the Dogger Bank and is scheduled to be fully operational in 2026. An innovative aspect of the project is the installation of recyclable blades on 44 turbines<\/strong> , reinforcing RWE\u2019s commitment to long-term sustainability. <\/p>\n\n

Sofia’s maintenance operations will be managed from RWE’s new Grimsby Hub<\/a><\/strong> , which will also support other wind projects in the North Sea, such as Triton Knoll.<\/p>\n\n
