The company Naturgy<\/strong> , through its gas distributor Nedgia<\/em> , and the European biomethane platform Cycle\u00d8, have announced the first virtual gas pipeline<\/strong> in Spain, with the aim of reaching remote and inaccessible places in the region. <\/p>\n\n

The first virtual gas pipeline from Naturgy and Cycle\u00d8<\/h2>\n\n

This project will allow the injection of renewable gas, generated from agro-food waste, into the gas distribution network, thus increasing the potential and volume of biomethane production<\/a><\/strong> for the future in the country.<\/p>\n\n

The virtual gas pipeline is an important gas distribution and transport solution, located in Lleida<\/em> and will receive the capacity to inject up to 70 GWh<\/strong> of renewable gas per year, enough to supply more than 14,000 Spanish homes.<\/p>\n\n

This system will allow biomethane, produced at multiple Cycle\u00d8 plants<\/strong> , to be compressed and transported as Bio-CNG<\/strong> to injection points in the Nedgia network, without having to rely on proximity to traditional pipeline infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n

Laurence Molke, CEO of Cycle\u00d8, highlighted the importance of this project to overcome the logistical barriers that limit the expansion of biomethane production in Spain<\/strong> , thus improving the viability of this clean gas as an alternative to conventional natural gas. This advance will support the country’s decarbonisation objectives, and contribute to a fairer and more balanced energy transition. <\/p>\n\n

For his part, Ra\u00fal Su\u00e1rez, CEO of Nedgia<\/strong> , stated that this initiative aims to strengthen Naturgy’s commitment to sustainability by offering an efficient and competitive solution to inject renewable gas into the Spanish grid.<\/p>\n\n

Furthermore, the biomethane produced through this virtual gas pipeline will be used to boost the decarbonisation of sectors such as transport and industry, by replacing natural gas with a carbon-neutral alternative.<\/p>\n\n
