{"id":191540,"date":"2024-09-29T19:05:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-29T23:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/?p=191540"},"modified":"2024-09-28T19:43:17","modified_gmt":"2024-09-28T23:43:17","slug":"air-force-geosystems-geothermal-plant","status":"publish","type":"noticias","link":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/air-force-geosystems-geothermal-plant\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. Air Force could achieve energy resiliency through geothermal energy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Department of the Air Force (DAF) has awarded its first contract to study the <strong>feasibility of an advanced geothermal plant<\/strong>.\nThis innovative plant will utilize geopressurized systems (GGS), with the goal of generating <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/video-tv\/north-anna-generando-energia-limpia\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"video-tv\" data-id=\"184880\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">clean energy<\/a><\/strong> and ensure the energy self-sufficiency of its facilities.\nHouston-based Sage Geosystems will lead the project, which will take place in Starr County, Texas.  <\/p>\n\n<p>This contract, valued at $1.9 million, will be matched by Sage Geosystems, doubling the total investment in the demonstration plant.\nThe GGS technology, which reuses the technique of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/articulo\/the-future-of-fracking-environmental-risks\/\" data-type=\"articulo\" data-id=\"101990\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hydraulic fracturing<\/a><\/strong> to harness subway thermal energy, will be key to producing electricity without relying on geological formations.\nThis plant, planned for 2025, would be <strong>the first of its kind in the world<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Geothermal power plant for energy resilience<\/h2>\n\n<p>The contract with Sage Geosystems is part of the Department of the Air Force&#8217;s efforts to <strong>achieve energy resilience<\/strong>.\nThe project aims to make Joint Reserve Air Force Base Ellington Field in Houston capable of operating self-sufficiently during power outages.\nAccording to Kirk Phillips, director of the Air Force Energy Assurance Office, this initiative will improve the base&#8217;s operational capabilities in critical situations.  <\/p>\n\n<p>In addition to being an efficient and sustainable energy solution, advanced geothermal promises to reduce the environmental impact compared to other renewable sources.\nThe GGS system, being less dependent on climatic conditions than solar energy, is also less <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/the-largest-school-solar-energy-system\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"188178\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">solar energy<\/a><\/strong> or wind energy, it could also have important civilian applications in urban areas. <\/p>\n\n<p>The company&#8217;s breakthrough adds to its growing efforts to harness geothermal energy <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/articulo\/pros-and-cons-of-geothermal-energy\/\" data-type=\"articulo\" data-id=\"164758\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">geothermal energy<\/a><\/strong>as is being done by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/meta-and-the-geothermal-energy-project\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Meta<\/a><\/strong> is doing with its own renewable energy project.\nLike Meta, which is looking to integrate geothermal to reduce its carbon footprint, the Air Force is exploring next-generation technologies to ensure energy self-sufficiency.\nBoth projects reflect a global shift toward more sustainable and resilient energy sources that benefit both private companies and government entities.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Air Force and its geothermal projects<\/h2>\n\n<p>This project is just the beginning.
