Construction companies Holcim Australia<\/strong> and Putzmeister Oceania<\/strong> have announced the start of testing of the first electric concrete truck<\/strong> approved under the Australian Design Rules(ADR<\/em>).\nThe SANY eMixer<\/strong> truck is the first vehicle of its kind to operate on Australian roads, marking an important step towards carbon neutrality in the transportation of construction materials. <\/p>\n\n

Holcim and Putzmeister’s first electric concrete truck<\/h2>\n\n

This electric truck<\/strong> has been designed to transport concrete from“ready-mix plants<\/em>” to construction sites, without generating carbon emissions.\nThe SANY eMixer<\/strong> ‘s power comes from a 350 kWh battery developed by the specialized company CATL<\/a><\/strong>.\nIn addition, the vehicle has been developed in collaboration with Cesco Australia<\/strong>, which has manufactured the mixing drum to ensure durability and efficiency. <\/p>\n\n

During the first days of testing, the SANY eMixer<\/strong> has demonstrated its autonomous and operational capabilities by completing long routes or trips with an average remaining load of 35%.\nIn addition, this vehicle can be quieter than traditional concrete trucks, with lower operating costs. <\/p>\n\n

Holcim’<\/strong>s regional logistics manager, Kevin Peet, noted that“the performance of the truck and its battery will be put to the test in challenging urban environments, where concrete transport can be affected by operational constraints<\/em>“.\nMoreover, the vehicle’s charging availability allows for quick recharging in just three hours, making it an ideal solution for projects in metropolitan areas. <\/p>\n\n

This trial is part of Holcim <\/strong>and Putzmeister’ <\/strong>s wider efforts to decarbonize the construction industry in Australia.\nPutzmeister Oceania construction manager Chris Bartlett highlighted that the SANY eMixer is one of many innovations in the company’s portfolio of zero-emission equipment, along with other products such as the Putzmeister iONTRON hybrid concrete pump<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n
