{"id":189770,"date":"2024-09-20T09:51:47","date_gmt":"2024-09-20T13:51:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/noticias\/the-earth-will-have-a-new-mini-moon-2-months\/"},"modified":"2024-09-20T15:30:35","modified_gmt":"2024-09-20T19:30:35","slug":"the-earth-will-have-a-new-mini-moon-2-months","status":"publish","type":"noticias","link":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/the-earth-will-have-a-new-mini-moon-2-months\/","title":{"rendered":"Earth will have a new mini-Moon from September to November"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This fall, <strong>a mini-moon will accompany our planet in its orbit: asteroid 2024 PT5. <\/strong>Recently discovered by the ATLAS system in South Africa, this small asteroid will <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/nasa-space-x-exploraran-asteroid-metal\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"104527\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">small asteroid<\/a><\/strong>The asteroid, about the size of a bus, will be temporarily trapped by the Earth&#8217;s gravity for about two months.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">An asteroid that will orbit the Earth<\/h2>\n\n<p>The asteroid 2024 PT5 was sighted for the first time last August 7 and astronomers <strong>have<\/strong> already <strong>calculated that it will begin to orbit the Earth on September 29.<\/strong>\nAccording to Carlos and Ra\u00fal de la Fuente Marcos, researchers at the Complutense University of Madrid, this cosmic visitor will accompany our planet <strong>until November 25.<\/strong>\nDuring that period, the Earth will have two moons: the traditional one and this new mini-moon.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Although the news may excite astronomy enthusiasts, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/video-tv\/el-telescopio-espacial-hubble\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"video-tv\" data-id=\"165539\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">astronomy<\/a><\/strong>Unfortunately, <strong>2024 PT5 will be impossible to observe with the naked eye<\/strong>.\nIts small size and magnitude will make it invisible for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/nasa-and-space-telescope-nancy-grace-roman\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"179008\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">telescopes<\/a><\/strong> telescopes. <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"> \n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\u00a1Nueva mini-luna! \ud83c\udf11 Asteroide 2024 PT5 ser\u00e1 capturado por la Tierra\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3ieZPTlaZH8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n <\/div><\/figure>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Discovery of asteroid 2024 PT5.\nSource: Intelligent Minds <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The origin of our new companion<\/h2>\n\n<p>The experts, in their article published in <a href=\"https:\/\/iopscience.iop.org\/article\/10.3847\/2515-5172\/ad781f\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/iopscience.iop.org\/article\/10.3847\/2515-5172\/ad781f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The Research Notes of the AAS<\/strong>,<\/a> <strong>have determined that this asteroid belongs to the <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Asteroide_Arjuna\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Asteroide_Arjuna\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Arjuna family<\/a><\/strong>, a group of near-Earth bodies whose orbits are very similar to ours.\nAsteroids in this family are small and have trajectories that often coincide with that of our planet, which can generate temporary gravitational traps like this one. <\/p>\n\n<p>This phenomenon, also described in the scientific publication, is not new.\nIn 2006, a smaller asteroid named <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2006_RH120\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2006_RH120\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2006 RH120<\/a><\/strong> was captured by Earth&#8217;s gravity and remained in orbit for a year.\nMore recently, another asteroid accompanied us until 2020 before continuing its journey through space.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When will we see the mini moon again?<\/h2>\n\n<p>Although this mini-moon will leave us at the end of November, it will not be the last we hear of it.\nAccording to astronomers&#8217;
