{"id":186839,"date":"2024-09-10T13:55:54","date_gmt":"2024-09-10T17:55:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/noticias\/the-eu-approves-wind-power-project\/"},"modified":"2024-09-10T14:17:30","modified_gmt":"2024-09-10T18:17:30","slug":"the-eu-approves-wind-power-project","status":"publish","type":"noticias","link":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/the-eu-approves-wind-power-project\/","title":{"rendered":"European Union approves 19.6 million euro wave energy project"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A wave energy project, called <strong>WEDUSEA<\/strong>, has received formal approval from the European Union to move towards the commercialization of this innovative energy source.\nThis marine project becomes an ideal option for future maritime companies and consortiums. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The wave energy project and applied tests<\/h2>\n\n<p>With a total value of \u20ac19.6 million, the project involves 14 partners from the UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Spain.\nIt is coordinated by <strong>OceanEnergy<\/strong>, an Irish company with experience in the sector, and co-financed by the <strong>Horizon Europe<\/strong> program and <strong>Innovate UK.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n<p>The project will demonstrate a 1 MW floating wave energy converter called &#8220;OE35&#8221; at the <strong>European Marine Energy Centre <\/strong><em>(EMEC<\/em>) marine energy test site in Orkney, Scotland.\nOver two years, the converter will be evaluated in the extreme conditions of the Atlantic to ensure its performance and commercial viability.\nThe device has the potential to harness wave energy, which, according to estimates, could produce 10 times Europe&#8217;s annual electricity consumption.  <\/p>\n\n<p>The <strong>OE35 device <\/strong>is the largest of its kind and is designed to<em>&#8220;capture energy from the oscillation of water<\/em>&#8221; beneath the ocean surface.\nIts success would mark a technological breakthrough, and could also lay the groundwork for the mass commercialization of wave energy. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/wave-energy-device-in-hawai\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"175246\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wave energy<\/a><\/strong>The success of the project would be a technological breakthrough, and could also lay the groundwork for the mass commercialization of wave energy, driving the energy transition to renewable sources. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Project phases<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Design and construction<\/strong>: Adaptation of the device to operate in Orkney&#8217;s oceanic conditions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Technical and environmental demonstration<\/strong>: Conducting a series of tests, over the course of two years, at the EMEC site.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Commercialization<\/strong>: Exploitation and capitalization of results for future expansion to a larger scale.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"> \n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"WEDUSEA Project\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mwpZogclJXs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
