In doing so, Sweden aims to meet its ambition of eliminating the use of fossil fuels by 2045.

The project involves the participation of leading institutions in the energy and steel fields. Among them, Blykalla, a Swedish company that is leading the development of small modular reactors, known as SMRs, which generate clean energy efficiently and safely. Envigas, specialized in the production of biochar, which will evaluate the viability of this material as a sustainable alternative in industrial applications.

Also participating will be SSAB, one of Sweden’s largest steel producers, which will test the quality and applicability of biochar in its production processes, with a view to reducing its carbon footprint. RISE Research Institutes of Sweden and the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, who will provide technical research and optimization in the use of heat from SMRs in industrial processes.

Sweden drives clean steel with SMR and biocoal

The use of SMRs will help generate clean energy and facilitate the production of biochar, a vital component to replace coal in steel production, one of the most polluting industries. This combination is expected to boost energy efficiency and accelerate the transition to a carbon-neutral industrial sector.

Sweden, known for its advances in sustainability, has the potential to lead this global effort, providing a scalable model for other countries interested in reducing emissions and improving efficiency in industrial sectors.

Follow us on social networks and don’t miss any of our publications!

Source: Blykalla

Photo: Shutterstock

[13026,13044

post-185966","noticias","type-noticias","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","categoria_noticias-energy","categoria_noticias-new-energies
["GET
