{"id":185269,"date":"2024-09-04T10:06:06","date_gmt":"2024-09-04T14:06:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/?p=185269"},"modified":"2024-09-04T10:06:10","modified_gmt":"2024-09-04T14:06:10","slug":"edf-starts-the-flamanville-epr-reactor","status":"publish","type":"noticias","link":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/edf-starts-the-flamanville-epr-reactor\/","title":{"rendered":"EDF starts divergence operations of the EPR reactor at Flamanville"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>EDF has taken a major step towards the commissioning of the Flamanville EPR reactor with the start of divergence operations.\nThe <strong>Nuclear Safety Authority<\/strong> has granted approval to proceed with these operations, which mark the start of the first controlled nuclear reaction at the reactor. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The start of operations of the Flamanville EPR<\/h2>\n\n<p>Following reactor loading in May, the <strong>Flamanville EPR teams <\/strong>have conducted a series of technical tests to prepare the facility for nuclear fission.\nDivergence will involve <strong>creating a stable nuclear reaction<\/strong> at extremely low power, starting with the reactor operating at 0.2% of its rated capacity.\nThis is a critical event in the commissioning process, because it establishes the conditions necessary to progressively increase the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/rosatom-and-the-leningrad-nuclear-nuclear-central\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"177715\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reactor power<\/a><\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Once the initial tests have been completed<\/strong>, a more extensive test program will be launched that will bring the reactor to a 25% power level.\nAt this point, the EPR will be connected to the national power grid, registering its first contribution to France&#8217;s power supply. <\/p>\n\n<p>The commissioning of the Flamanville EPR reactor is a breakthrough for France&#8217;s energy security, and also reaffirms <strong>EDF&#8217;s commitment<\/strong> to <strong>advanced nuclear technology<\/strong>.
