Uniper<\/strong>, one of Europe’s leading energy companies, has inaugurated a new green hydrogen storage facility<\/strong> in Krummh\u00f6rn, Lower Saxony.\nThis project, known as the Hydrogen Pilot Cavern<\/em> (HPC), is one of the first of its kind in the world and symbolizes Uniper’s commitment to the transition to a more sustainable energy supply. <\/p>\n\n

Uniper’s green hydrogen storage project<\/h2>\n\n

The HPC pilot module<\/strong> has a volume of approximately 3,000 cubic meters and was constructed by solution mining in an existing well.\nWith a projected total storage capacity of up to 500,000 cubic meters of green hydrogen. green hydrogen<\/a><\/strong>The facility is an essential component in Uniper’s“Greener Gases<\/em>” strategy, which seeks to integrate clean energy sources into the European energy grid. <\/p>\n\n

During the inauguration, Michael Lewis, CEO of Uniper<\/strong>, highlighted the importance of hydrogen storage in stabilizing energy supply, especially in a context of increasing dependence on renewable energies.\nFurthermore, Lower Saxony’<\/strong>s Minister of Economics<\/strong>, Olaf Lies, highlighted the region’s role in the energy transition, underlining Krummh\u00f6rn’s proximity to the North Sea and its connection to the existing energy infrastructure<\/a><\/strong> infrastructure. <\/p>\n\n

The Krummh\u00f6rn HPC project<\/strong> has a major local impact, and is also part of a broader vision to make Lower Saxony a hub of the hydrogen economy in Europe.\nUniper plans to expand storage capacity at Krummh\u00f6rn and other sites to 600 GWh by 2030, making a significant contribution to decarbonization and energy security on the continent. <\/p>\n\n
