Orient Overseas Container Line <\/strong>(OOCL) has initiated a collaboration with partners such as IKEA <\/strong>and Kyocera <\/strong>to reduce carbon emissions in shipping through the use of biofuels<\/a><\/strong>.\nThis effort is a key step forward in the decarbonization of the shipping sector, with the first voyage using B24 biofuel<\/strong> to take place in early August 2024. <\/p>\n\n

Biofuels: A solution for maritime transport<\/h2>\n\n

The biofuel <\/strong>used is a blend of ISCC-certified used cooking oil methyl esters combined with VLSFO.\nThis alternative fuel allows a significant reduction in carbon emissions. carbon emissions<\/a><\/strong>emissions, contributing to a greener supply chain.\nThe partners involved will receive a Green Certificate attesting to the carbon emissions saved during the transportation of their products. <\/p>\n\n

The calculation and allocation of these emissions reductions are verified through the Global Shipping Business Network<\/strong>(GSBN<\/em>) using blockchain technology, ensuring an accurate and immutable record.\nThis project is part of OOCL’s strategy to advance the transition to more sustainable shipping, using the Well-to-Wake approach<\/em> to measure carbon emissions from fuel production to its use in operations. <\/p>\n\n
