the Mississippi River near Ascension Parish, Louisiana. <strong>According to the NTSB report, the incident was due to severe deterioration of the hull<\/strong>, which had multiple holes and double plates as temporary repairs.<\/p>\n\n<p>This damage allowed water to enter, which resulted in progressive flooding of the vessel.\nIn addition, the lack of a water level sensor in the bilge contributed to the flooding not being detected in time. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Uncle Blue Tugboat: The error of temporary repairs<\/h2>\n\n<p>The <strong>Uncle Blue<\/strong>, owned by Alexis Marine and built in 1964, was towing an empty barge when it began to flood.\nAlthough there were no injuries or pollution, <strong>the incident resulted in damages estimated at $500,000.<\/strong> The salvage process took four days, during which time <strong>1,400 gallons of fuel<\/strong> were <strong>removed<\/strong> before the vessel was refloated. <\/p>\n\n<p>The NTSB report also highlighted that while double plating may serve as a temporary solution, it is not suitable as a permanent hull repair. <strong>The investigators stressed the importance of regular and proactive hull maintenance<\/strong> to prevent similar incidents, especially on older vessels.<\/p>\n\n<p>Lack of proper maintenance at the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vesselfinder.com\/es\/vessels\/details\/8644450\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.vesselfinder.com\/es\/vessels\/details\/8644450\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Uncle Blue<\/a> <\/strong>allowed the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/articulo\/sizing-corrosion-under-pipe-supports__trashed\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"articulo\" data-id=\"179433\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">corrosion<\/a><\/strong> and wear to significantly deteriorate the integrity of the hull.<\/p>\n\n<p>Vessel owners should watch for signs of wear and
