{"id":183271,"date":"2024-08-27T15:53:42","date_gmt":"2024-08-27T19:53:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/noticias\/solar-farm-solar-mine-granny-smith-gold-fields\/"},"modified":"2024-08-27T17:03:52","modified_gmt":"2024-08-27T21:03:52","slug":"solar-farm-solar-mine-granny-smith-gold-fields","status":"publish","type":"noticias","link":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/solar-farm-solar-mine-granny-smith-gold-fields\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold Fields expands solar farm at Granny Smith Mine"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Gold Fields Limited announced in a press release the <strong>expansion of the solar farm at its Granny Smith mine<\/strong>, located in Western Australia.\nThis expansion will increase the solar capacity of the gold mine from 8 MW to 19 MW, supported by a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/the-biggest-bess-project-in-eastern-europe\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"175983\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">battery energy storage system (BESS) that will<\/a><\/strong> (BESS) system that will improve reliability and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. <\/p>\n\n<p>Mark Glazebrook, general manager of Granny Smith, said that this expansion is a crucial step in reducing the carbon intensity of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/geothermal-projects-seek-to-supply-energy-to-mining-operations-in-the-south-of-the-country\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"41591\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mining operation<\/a><\/strong>.\nWith the new capacity, 21% of the mine&#8217;s energy needs will be met by renewable sources, reducing energy costs and strengthening the company&#8217;s commitment to decarbonization. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New solar capacity at Granny Smith mine to be completed by 2025<\/h2>\n\n<p>The expansion, to be completed by early 2025, is part of Gold Fields&#8217; broader initiative to reduce its environmental impact and <strong>achieve net zero emissions by 2050.<\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/im-mining.com\/2024\/08\/27\/aggreko-to-help-expand-renewable-energy-generation-at-gold-fields-granny-smith-mine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Aggreko<\/a><\/strong>the energy solutions provider that has partnered with Gold Fields since 2016, is responsible for the construction and operation of this expansion.<\/p>\n\n<p>George Whyte, General Manager of Aggreko APAC, highlighted the importance of this expansion, noting that it not only optimizes the mine&#8217;s energy efficiency and reliability, but also contributes significantly to the decarbonization of the region.<\/p>\n\n<p>The project not only reinforces Gold Fields&#8217;
