BHP’s first electric excavator<\/h2>\n\n

The 400-tonne<\/strong> backhoe<\/strong> is equipped with a Liebherr autonomous cable reel, an innovative element essential for future BHP projects and its fleet.\nThis technological solution improves machine maneuverability and enhances operator safety while optimizing productivity in the dynamic and complex mining sector. <\/p>\n\n

With more than 40 years of experience in developing and manufacturing electric excavators, Liebherr has cemented electrification as part of its corporate DNA.“We are excited to expand the reach of this technology in the Australian market<\/em>,” said Brian Boitano, executive general manager, sales and marketing, Liebherr-Australia.“We have received multiple orders for electric excavators this year, and we have several in our order book for 2024 and 2025<\/em>.”<\/p>\n\n

The introduction of the R 9400 E<\/strong> into the BHP fleet<\/strong> is a testament to both companies’ commitment to innovation and sustainability.\nThis collaboration reinforces the long-standing partnership between BHP and Liebherr<\/strong>, while underlining Liebherr’s role as a trusted partner and provider of zero-emission solutions in the mining industry. <\/p>\n\n

For BHP, the electrification of its mining fleet<\/a><\/strong>is a fundamental part of its strategy to achieve net zero greenhousegas (GHG<\/em>) emissions by 2050.\nAmong its main objectives is the performance of its operations and meeting its iron ore mine schedules. <\/p>\n\n
