{"id":182467,"date":"2024-08-23T15:40:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-23T19:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/noticias\/will-build-an-ethane-burning-plant\/"},"modified":"2025-08-12T10:37:21","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T14:37:21","slug":"will-build-an-ethane-burning-plant","status":"publish","type":"noticias","link":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/will-build-an-ethane-burning-plant\/","title":{"rendered":"Company seeks to build new ethane cracker plant in Louisiana"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Shintech, a subsidiary of Shin-Etsu Chemical, has filed a permit application with the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) to construct a <strong>new ethane cracker plant in Plaquemine<\/strong>.\nThis facility, named Plaquemine Ethylene Plant-2 (PEP-2), would have a capacity of 500,000 metric tons per year and would contribute significantly to the expansion of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) production in the region. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shintech plans expansion with new ethane cracker and VCM plant<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If the project is approved and the final investment decision (FID) is made, <strong>construction would begin in late 2024, <\/strong>with a view to start operations between the fall and winter of 2027.\nThis development aligns with the company&#8217;s strategic plans to strengthen its presence in the petrochemical industry. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/cfs-leads-the-petrochemical-industry-with-specialized-refractory-services\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"84274\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">petrochemicals industry<\/a><\/strong> global petrochemical industry, especially after delays in similar projects due to the Covid-19 pandemic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the <strong>ethane cracking plant<\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shintech.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.shintech.com\/index.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Shintech<\/a><\/strong> has also applied for permits for a new vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) plant, which would follow the same construction schedule as PEP-2.
