Fortescue Metals Group has taken a significant step towards decarbonizing its mining operations<\/a> with its hydrogen truck in the Pilbara.<\/strong> This truck named “Europa” has travelled 1,100 kilometers from Perth and will now begin a series of trials in a real mining environment at the Christmas Creek mine.<\/p>\n\n

Key tests for hydrogen truck in Pilbara<\/h2>\n\n

The Liebherr T 264 haul truck will be tested over the next few months to evaluate its performance under real-world conditions. The company plans to use the results of these tests to design its future fleet of zero-emission transport trucks.<\/strong> zero-emission haulage trucks<\/a><\/strong>which are expected to start operating at its facilities from 2026.<\/p>\n\n

Once the prototype is fully operational on site, it will be refueled with liquid hydrogen. liquid hydrogen<\/a><\/strong> from a plant located at Fortescue’s Green Energy Hub in Christmas Creek.\nThis project is part of Fortescue’s broader collaboration with Liebherr<\/a><\/strong>where both companies are working to develop and validate an autonomous, zero-emission transportation solution. <\/p>\n\n
