<strong>PIPE-i<\/strong>; a robot developed by the company&#8217;s team to perform <strong>detailed inspections in<\/strong> <strong>confined spaces and hard-to-reach environments<\/strong> such as sewers and tunnels, avoiding exposing workers to unnecessary risks.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The origin of PIPE-i<\/h2>\n\n<p>This <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/heliotrope-1-0-rv-with-solar-robotic-panel\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"156346\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">robotic inspection vehicle<\/a><\/strong> inspection vehicle was manufactured between June 2022 and June 2023, when Beca&#8217;s structural engineers had to inspect a severely cracked and deformed culvert under a state highway.<\/p>\n\n<p>Traditional methods proved ineffective, leading the company to investigate solutions available on the market.\nFinding none that met the requirements, the company decided to develop its own solution: <strong>PIPE-i<\/strong>, which had a development cost of approximately $100,000 and was funded by the Beca Innovation Investment Group (IIG) following a detailed business confined space inspection<\/h2>\n\n<p>PIPE-i is equipped with a Leica BLK360 3D scanner, which allows it to capture accurate three-dimensional data in environments where it is not safe for people to enter.\nIt also uses advanced technologies such as the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/first-3d-scanner-with-zoom-optical-zoom-launched\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"137416\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">3D scanner<\/a><\/strong> and reality capture systems to accurately map and analyze the spaces it explores.\nEquipped with high-resolution cameras and proximity sensors, this <strong>inspector robot <\/strong>is able to navigate autonomously, capturing detailed data that is crucial for the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/articulo\/evaluation-structural-analysis-of-springs\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"articulo\" data-id=\"153664\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">infrastructure assessment<\/a><\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Likewise, <strong>PIPE-i provides 360\u00b0 high-definition images<\/strong> and its capabilities allow the collection of three-dimensional point clouds, which are then compared to detect any changes in the structure of the inspected spaces.\nThis not only improves the accuracy of inspections, but also offers a safer and more cost-effective solution for the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/articulo\/importance-of-risk-based-inspection-in-midstream-asset-management\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"articulo\" data-id=\"122648\" several operations using the robot, including inspections at sites such as Weeper CT and Dome Valley CT.\nThese achievements are a testament to the potential of this technology to transform the way in which confined space inspections are conducted. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/articulo\/inspections-at-plant-stops\/\" data-type=\"articulo\" data-id=\"127160\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">inspections are performed in confined spaces.<\/a><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p>Among the next steps that Beca is exploring is the integration of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/aes-and-the-first-solar-installation-robot\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"175924\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">artificial intelligence<\/a><\/strong> and machine learning into PIPE-i.\nThese enhancements will allow for even more autonomous data collection and the ability to identify <strong><a
