The company WinGD<\/strong>, has presented its collaboration with CMA CGM<\/strong>, to conduct tests at sea, with its VCR technology, that is, the “variable compression ratio” with its acronym.\nThis would be the first real-world application of this dual-fuel engine technology<\/strong>, after factory tests demonstrated efficiency improvements with both diesel and liquefied natural gas. <\/p>\n\n

The use of VCR technology in dual motors<\/h2>\n\n

This technology allows dynamic adaptation of the compression ratio<\/strong> in the cylinders of X-DF dual-fuel engines, adjusting according to the type of fuel used, ambient conditions and engine load.\nThis adjustability optimizes fuel consumption and reduces exhaust emissions, and is the first example of the use of an adjustable compression ratio in marine engines, a parameter that has traditionally been fixed in their design. <\/p>\n\n

In addition, the collaboration with CMA CGM includes a comprehensive, large-scale, long-term test aimed at validating the operability and reliability of this technology in a real maritime environment.\nIn addition, on-board testing is scheduled to begin after the vessel enters dry dock in September.\nAt that time, the VCR system<\/strong> will be installed on the vessel’s WinGD<\/a> RT flex50DFdual-fuel engine<\/a><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

CMA CGM is committed to achieving sustainability and reaching its goal of zero net carbon emissions by 2050.\nNow, with the addition of WinGD’s VCR technology<\/strong> to its fleet, it enables it to move forward in development, to implement green solutions on its existing and next-generation vessels. <\/p>\n\n

Finally, it is important to note that VCR technology increases the operational flexibility of the engines, while contributing to fuel savings and methane emission reductions. WinGD is committed to the transition from fossil LNG to synthetic or biomass-derived versions<\/strong>, along with continuous improvements in methane emissions, both in engines and throughout the fuel production and supply chain.<\/p>\n\n
