broke out on board the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/big-explosion-on-container-ship\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"178406\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">container ship &#8220;MSC CAPETOWN III<\/a><\/strong> &#8220;MSC CAPETOWN III&#8221;, berthed at the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT), but thanks to quick and coordinated action, the fire was controlled and extinguished without causing further damage. <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div a vessel with 18 years of service, was undergoing unloading and loading operations when the fire started.\nThe incident occurred in the 41\/43 hatch area of the vessel, affecting an array of containers both below deck and on deck. <\/p>\n\n<p>Although the fire resulted in an explosion, the port&#8217;s emergency team acted quickly, under the direction of the port captain, and managed to extinguish the fire, avoiding a major disaster.<\/p>\n\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/vessel-anita-industry-naval-argentina\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"177387\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">vessel<\/a><\/strong>which sailed under the Madeira flag, had arrived at the port from Singapore. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/the-plant-kmc-control-system-with-abb\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"178295\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Singapore<\/a><\/strong> and was part of the East African Service, known as the DAR ES SALAM SERVICE.\nAt the time of the incident, it was <strong>discharging 995 containers and loading an additional 880 containers<\/strong>. manager HJKU Kumara stressed the importance of the<strong> immediate response of the fire team <\/strong>and the collaboration of the port services. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/articulo\/ship-to-ship-transfers-in-maritime-trade\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"articulo\" data-id=\"147244\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">port services<\/a><\/strong> to bring the situation under control.\nHe also mentioned that an <strong>investigation<\/strong> has already been launched <strong>to determine the cause of the fire<\/strong> and assess the condition of the affected cargo. <\/p>\n\n<p>Importantly, the Sri Lanka Ports Authority reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and security of vessels and cargo within its
