{"id":178608,"date":"2024-08-11T15:17:40","date_gmt":"2024-08-11T19:17:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/?p=178608"},"modified":"2024-09-16T14:33:26","modified_gmt":"2024-09-16T18:33:26","slug":"bases-park-bandibuli-built-samsung","status":"publish","type":"noticias","link":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/bases-park-bandibuli-built-samsung\/","title":{"rendered":"Bases for Bandibuli Park in Korea to be built by Samsung Heavy Industries"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) signed a preferred supplier agreement (PSA) with the Norwegian company <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/equinor-extensive-contract-with-odfjell-drilling\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"158009\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Equinor<\/a><\/strong>.\nThis agreement focuses on<strong> the construction of the floating bases to be installed at the Bandibuli offshore wind farm,<\/strong> a large-scale project in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/robot-suicide-in-south-korea-hypothesis\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"169191\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">South Korea<\/a><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SHI announced the signing of a contract with Equinor, which includes the fabrication of floating substructures and the necessary maneuvering operations for the development of the <strong>Bandibuli project<\/strong>.\nThis agreement follows an update in June, when both companies confirmed their intention to collaborate on the construction of a floating wind farm off the South Korean coast. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Collaboration and expansion into renewable energies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In June, the CEOs of Equinor and SHI, Anders Opedal and Sungan Choi, respectively, met to discuss the possibility of expanding their collaboration beyond traditional <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/oil-and-gas-reserves-in-south-korea\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"160982\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">oil and gas<\/a><\/strong>. The meeting also covered the area of renewable energy and low-carbon solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Part of the discussions included the use of SHI&#8217;s Shinhannae shipyard in Geoje as a base for maneuvering and integrating the wind turbines into the floats, a crucial phase of the <strong>Bandibuli project.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Impact of the Bandibuli project on the energy sector<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The<\/strong> <strong>Bandibuli floating offshore wind farm<\/strong>, also known as Firefly, is projected to reach an installed capacity of up to 800 MW and <strong>is expected to be fully operational by 2027.<\/strong>\nThis project has the potential to be the first major joint development between SHI and Equinor in the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/get-to-know-the-floating-desalination-plant-that-uses-wave-energy\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"90942\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">field of renewable energy<\/a><\/strong>.\nHowever, the ultimate viability of the project will depend on its selection in the upcoming offshore wind auction in South Korea.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In July, <strong>the project received Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) approval,<\/strong> putting it in a favorable position to compete in the auction.\nEquinor&#8217;s vision is to take advantage of the region&#8217;s windy conditions and position South Korea as a leader in floating wind power in Asia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Commitment to sustainability and the energy future<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Since signing a memorandum of understanding with the city of Ulsan in May 2019, Equinor has been working on the development of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/plans-for-a-floating-marine-eolian-park\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"159362\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">floating wind farm<\/a><\/strong> in an area about 70 kilometers offshore. <strong>The project covers two sites of 75 square kilometers each<\/strong>, and once completed, will make a significant contribution to South Korea&#8217;s renewable energy mix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The collaboration between <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/samsungshi.com\/En\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"http:\/\/www.samsungshi.com\/eng\/default.aspx\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Samsung Heavy Industries<\/a><\/strong> and Equinor strengthens the relationship between the two companies and marks a milestone in the move towards more sustainable energy sources that are less dependent on fossil fuels, a crucial step in the fight against climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Follow us on
