provides bio-LNG supply to the vessel assigned to Equinor platform

The companies Gasum and Equinor have joined forces in a liquefied biomethane (bio-LNG) bunkering operation in the port of Dusavik, Stavanger, Norway, establishing a collaboration, involving the supply of bio-LNG, mass-balanced ISCC-EU certified, to the platform supply vessel Island Crusader, operated by Equinor.

The use and supply of bio-GNL

In mid-July, the first supply of bio-LNG to the Island Crusader was successfully completed.
Since that time, Gasum has continued to supply the vessel with 2-3 truckloads of bio-LNG every two weeks.
Each supply fulfills approximately 22 tons of the fuel.

Equinor, for its part, aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
The supply of bio-LNG to the Island Crusader is a direct contribution to this goal.
For its part, biogas is a completely renewable and environmentally friendly source of energy, with greenhouse gas emissions that are 90% lower compared to fossil fuels.
In addition, biogas is versatile and can be used in applications similar to natural gas, such as maritime transport, land transport and industrial energy.

Also, the Island Crusader is also equipped with hybrid battery technology, which optimizes its environmental efficiency.
This technology complements the use of bio-LNG, maximizing the vessel’s sustainable performance and significantly reducing its carbon footprint.

Biogas production and circular economy

The biogas production is a fundamental pillar of the circular economy, because it is generated from organic waste such as biowaste, sewage sludge and manure, among others.
In addition to producing clean energy, the by-products of this process contain nutrients that can be recycled for use in industry and agriculture, thus closing the sustainability cycle.

Gasum is committed to increasing the availability of renewable gas to meet the growing demand for sustainable energy.
The company has set an ambitious goal of offering 7 TWh of renewable gas to its customers annually by 2027, including biomethane and e-methane.
To achieve this goal, Gasum is establishing long-term strategic partnerships with certified biogas producers across Europe, which will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.8 million tons per year for its customers.

In addition, Gasum has the capabilities to supply bio-LNG to any shipping company operating liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, because bio-LNG is fully interchangeable with LNG and can be mixed in any ratio, thus offering a flexible and sustainable solution for shipping.

The company specializes in providing clean energy services and consulting in the energy market, ranging from industry to combined heat and power.
In addition, it can provide cleaner fuel solutions, can provide cleaner fuel solutions for road and maritime for road and maritime transport, helping its customers to reduce their carbon footprint.
With around 340 employees spread across Finland, Norway, Sweden and Germany, and a turnover of €1,457 million in 2023, Gasum is a key player in the transition to a carbon-neutral future.

Follow us on social networks and don’t miss any of our publications!

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/@inspenet" target="_blank"
