BW ESS and Penso Power<\/strong> have secured a seven-year agreement with Shell Energy Europe Limited<\/strong> for its Bramley Battery Energy Storage System(BESS<\/em>).\nThis project is currently under construction in Hampshire, UK. <\/p>\n\n

BW ESS storage technology<\/h2>\n\n

This contract establishes the first long-term agreement signed in Great Britain for a single BESS asset.\nBy setting a new precedent in the market, this revenue model could open the door to future opportunities in energy storage across Europe. <\/p>\n\n

The agreement guarantees stable revenues for BW ESS and Penso Power, while Shell will be responsible for marketing the Bramley BESS system<\/strong> in multiple ancillary services and wholesale markets.\nThis provides financial security, while allowing Shell to optimize its marketing strategies in key energy markets. <\/p>\n\n

The Bramley project,<\/strong> with a capacity of 100 MW \/ 330 MWh, is the first in Europe to use Sungrow’s PowerTitan 2.0 technology, a liquid-cooled BESS system.\nThis advanced system integrates a 2.5 MW power conversion system with string inverters and a 5 MWh battery in a single container.\nThanks to this compact technology, BW ESS and Penso Power have been able to maximize storage capacity in a small footprint.\nBramley, once operational in the fourth quarter of this year, is expected to be the longest running BESS in the UK. <\/p>\n\n

The Bramley energy storage project<\/h2>\n\n

BW ESS CEO Erik Str\u00f8ms\u00f8 expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration with Shell, noting that Bramley sets a new standard in energy storage solutions and innovative financing models.\nStr\u00f8ms\u00f8 emphasized that this project demonstrates their commitment to leadership in the energy storage market. <\/p>\n\n

For his part, Richard Thwaites, CEO of Penso Power, highlighted the importance of this agreement, underlining the assured long-term revenue for Bramley, and the ease of transitioning the market towards battery systems<\/a><\/strong> systems with longer life and greater charging capacity.<\/p>\n\n

Rupen Tanna, Head of Energy and Systematic Trading at Shell Energy Europe, also mentioned the strategic value of the Bramley battery system<\/strong>, describing it as one of the most advanced and durable under construction in the UK.\nTanna emphasized that this agreement will allow Shell to optimize its energy portfolio and support the UK’s energy transition. <\/p>\n\n

This agreement, which will come into effect once the Bramley project is operational, has had legal advice from Ashurst LLP for BW ESS and Penso Power, while Shell has managed the legal aspect with its own in-house team.<\/p>\n\n
