A biomass power plant biomass power plant in Ozu, located in<\/a><\/strong> in Ozu, located in Ehime Prefecture in southern Japan.\nThis facility, with a capacity of 50 MW, started construction in June 2022 and is designed to burn approximately 200,000 tons per year of wood pellets, which are mostly imported from Southeast Asia. <\/p>\n\n

The electricity generated by this plant, which amounts to 350 GWh per year, will be sold to Shikoku Electric Power Transmission and Distribution for the next 20 years under the feed-in tariff scheme established by Japan.<\/p>\n\n

Alliance in Ozu strengthens biomass energy sector<\/h2>\n\n

The Ozu plant is operated by a joint venture company where Maeda Kensetsu<\/a><\/strong> owns 57.6% of the shares, Japex 35%, Shikoku Electric Power’s Yonden Business 6.4% and engineering firm Shinko Denso the remaining 1%.\nJapex has already invested in two other biomass plants. smaller-scale biomass plants<\/a><\/strong> plants, each with 9.9 MW, located in Hokkaido Prefecture, in the north of the country. <\/p>\n\n

These units, Abashiri No.2 and No.3, started operations in October 2022 and March 2023, respectively.\nIn addition, Japex has two other biomass plants under construction in Chofu and Tahara, with capacities of 75 MW and 50 MW, respectively.\nChofu will start operations in January next year, followed by Tahara in April. <\/p>\n\n
