Uniper <\/strong>has plans to achieve decarbonization with its future green projects.\nAt Rotterdam’s Gate terminal, the company has emerged as the first carrier to use BioLNG production capacity to transform biomethane into BioLNG. <\/p>\n\n

Green projects with BioLNG<\/h2>\n\n

Uniper’s commercial director, Carsten Poppinga, said this development is a breakthrough in the quest for a greener fuel market for ships and trucks.\nBioLNG, with its low carbon emissions, becomes a vital player in achieving the emissions reduction targets set by the International Maritime Organization<\/strong>, both for Uniper’s fleet and for the maritime sector in general. <\/p>\n\n

Among other words, Poppinga expressed satisfaction that this new step adds value to its assets at the Gate terminal, and lays the foundation for a cleaner world.\nThe BioLNG produced at the Gate terminal is certified under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification<\/strong>(ISCC<\/em>) scheme. <\/p>\n\n

This biogas is transformed into biomethane<\/a><\/strong> after removing impurities such as carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide.\nIt is then fed into the Dutch natural gas grid<\/strong>.\nAt the Gate terminal, the biomethane is liquefied using the existing infrastructure, with a liquefaction capacity of approximately 100,000 tons per year, available for the transport sector. <\/p>\n\n

This development will enable the creation of an integrated biomethane to BioLNG supply chain<\/strong> within Uniper, designed to maximize the value of its Gate terminal assets and reduce emissions from its portfolio.<\/p>\n\n
