{"id":174807,"date":"2024-07-25T21:15:28","date_gmt":"2024-07-26T01:15:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/noticias\/basf-ngk-and-your-sulfur-sodium-battery\/"},"modified":"2024-07-25T21:42:49","modified_gmt":"2024-07-26T01:42:49","slug":"basf-ngk-and-your-sulfur-sodium-battery","status":"publish","type":"noticias","link":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/basf-ngk-and-your-sulfur-sodium-battery\/","title":{"rendered":"BASF and NGK announce launch of sodium-sulfur battery"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em> BASF<\/em> <strong>&#8216; <\/strong>s wholly owned subsidiary<em> BASF Stationary Energy Storage GmbH<\/em> and Japanese manufacturer <strong>NGK Insulators <\/strong><em>(NGK<\/em>) have introduced a new NAS battery under advanced container-type technology (sodium-sulfur battery).<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The NAS MODEL L24 battery design<\/h2>\n\n<p>This new battery has been jointly developed by<strong> NGK and BASF<\/strong>, which has an extremely low degradation rate of less than 01% per year.\nThis is due to the<strong>reduction of corrosion<\/strong> in the battery cells. <\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;The development of this advanced NAS battery is a milestone achieved by the joint team of BASF and NGK, combining the specialties of both companies. With the NAS MODEL L24, our customers will be able to lower their initial investment in battery storage systems and save around 20% in costs over the course of the project. We are proud to contribute to the advancement of NAS battery technology, which is vital for a successful energy transition.<\/p>\n<cite>Frank Prechtl, Managing Director of <em>BASF Stationary Energy Storage GmbH<\/em>, a subsidiary of BASF.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n<p>In addition, the battery <strong>includes an<\/strong> improved <strong>thermal management system<\/strong> in the modules, allowing extended discharges on a continuous basis.\nThese technological developments have been validated through field tests. <\/p>\n\n<p>Moreover,<strong> improvements in the design of this battery<\/strong> allow projects to be executed with considerably fewer NAS containers, reducing maintenance costs over the life of the project.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sodium-sulfur battery from BASF and NGK<\/h2>\n\n<p>This new design complies with the latest safety standards for energy storage facilities, such as UL1973 and UL9540A, highlighting the high safety of NAS facilities and other storage systems.<\/p>\n\n<p>For example, <strong>NAS batteries<\/strong> are high-energy, long-life, stationary storage devices with extended service life and enhanced safety, capable of providing a stable power supply for six hours or more.<\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>  &#8220;The improved performance is the result of an intensive and effective collaboration between BASF and NGK initiated in 2019. The degradation rate registers a lower 01% annualized, an important result in the energy storage industry.
