Chinese shipbuilder Hudong-Zhonghua has completed the construction and delivery of the first LNG carrier LNG carrier<\/a><\/strong> with a capacity of 14,000 m3<\/sup>.\nThis vessel has been specifically developed to operate on the Yangtze River. <\/p>\n\n

The ship, christened Huaihe Nengyuan Qihang, was officially delivered on July 19<\/strong>, during a ceremony that took place two months ahead of schedule.\nThis early delivery underscores Hudong-Zhonghua’s commitment and efficiency in the shipbuilding industry. <\/p>\n\n

Hudong-Zhonghua delivers first dual-fuel LNG carrier<\/h2>\n\n

Recognized as the first LNG bunkering vessel to connect the river to the sea<\/strong>, the Huaihe Nengyuan Qihang was ordered by Anhui Changjiang LNG.\nThis operator of the Wuhu LNG Terminal, located in Anhui province, placed the order in 2022 as part of a strategy to promote gasification of the Yangtze River. <\/p>\n\n

The main objective is to replace ships using heavy oil and diesel, thereby reducing polluting emissions <\/strong>through the use of LNG.<\/p>\n\n

The Huaihe Nengyuan Qihang launching ceremony was held in January and gas testing was completed in early June 2024, offshore energy biz<\/a><\/strong>as reported by offshore energy biz.\nThis dual-fuel vessel has been developed and built entirely by Chinese companies, including a B-type containment system designed by Hudong-Zhonghua. <\/p>\n\n

Characteristics of the vessel<\/h2>\n\n

The ship is equipped with a dozen types of equipment that are implemented for the first time on board.\nAmong these, the first domestically manufactured LD compressor, a cryogenic pump and a deep cold device stand out, achieving a localization rate of over 80%. <\/p>\n\n

Classified by the China Classification Society (CCS), the Huaihe Nengyuan Qihang has an overall length of 130 meters, a width of 23.60 meters and a depth of 15 meters.\nThis vessel represents a significant breakthrough in China’s shipbuilding industry and an important contribution to the reduction of emissions in river transport. <\/p>\n\n
