The mining company Eramet has announced the inauguration of its direct lithium extraction<\/strong>(DLE<\/em>) plant<\/strong> in Salta, Argentina. This event marks the formal start of the production of essential metals for the country’s energy transition.<\/p>\n\n

Inauguration and direct lithium extraction<\/h2>\n\n

The Centenario plant<\/strong> is expected to start first production in November 2024. Once operating at full capacity, the plant will produce 24,000 tons per year of lithium carbonate, enough to supply 600,000 electric vehicles. This initial phase of the project required \n a series of tests at the beginning of the year and a total investment of approximately US$870 million.<\/a>\n<\/strong> and a total investment of approximately US$870 million, and is estimated to generate an annual EBITDA of between US$210 million and US$315 million.<\/p>\n\n

Eramet has developed in-house advanced DLE technology<\/strong>, which has a recovery rate of 90%. This technology is protected by 12 patents, and was created by Eramet Ideas in France. The Centenario-Ratones deposit, located in the “lithium triangle”, is the epicenter of this innovative operation.<\/p>\n
