This innovative CCRV, operated by Scripps Institution of Oceanography, will employ hydrogen fuel cells for emission-free operation.<\/p>\n\n<p>The project, developed in collaboration with Siemens Energy, has overcome complex regulatory and technical challenges, ensuring that the design complies with the <strong>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/ww2.eagle.org\/en\/rules-and-resources\/rules-and-guides.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ABS safety standards and California<\/a>\n<\/strong> and California environmental regulations.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Complexity of the hybrid hydrogen research vessel<\/h2>\n\n<p>Glosten&#8217;s Robin Madsen highlighted the complexity of integrating novel technologies such as liquid hydrogen and <strong>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/first-evtol-of-hydrogen-liquid-of-the-world\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"166604\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">liquid hydrogen<\/a>\n<\/strong> into a research vessel, stressing the importance of a meticulous approach to ensure efficiency and safety without compromising the vessel&#8217;s functionality. The project, conceived from a <strong>MARAD-funded feasibility study in 2018<\/strong>, represents a significant step forward towards the adoption of alternative fuels in the <strong>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/maritime-industry-eu-emissions-costs\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"100786\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">maritime industry<\/a>\n<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p>The CCRV design not only meets rigorous technical and safety standards, but also marks an achievement in the use of <strong>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/honda-hydrogen-fuel-cells\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"110762\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hydrogen fuel cells for medium-sized coastal vessels.<\/a>\n<\/strong> coastal vessels.
