The Norwegian company Deep Wind Offshore has applied for the development and operation of a floating offshore wind farm<\/strong> with a capacity of 1.5 GW in Sweden. This project will become the first of its kind to receive a formal application for construction in the vicinity of Stockholm.<\/p>\n\n

Electricity for 2.5 million citizens<\/h2>\n\n

The floating offshore wind farm is called Erik Segers\u00e4ll, and will be located approximately 74 km east of Nyn\u00e4shamn, with the capacity to supply electricity to both the mainland and the island of Gotland. This area has been identified by the Swedish Maritime and Water Authority as suitable for wind power generation. \n wind power generation<\/a>\n<\/strong>which supports the viability of the project.<\/p>\n\n

On the other hand, this \n wind farm<\/a>\n<\/strong> will cover an area that will allow a total potential installed capacity of 4.5 GW, developed in several phases. According to Deep Wind Offshore, the farm’s total annual production will reach 19.5 terawatt hours (TWh), enough to meet the electricity needs of 2.5 million residents of the Stockholm region<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

In its initial phase, the project is expected to generate approximately 6.5 TWh annually, equivalent to the total annual electricity consumption of the city of Stockholm, according to project developers. This initiative represents a significant step in Sweden’s efforts to increase its renewable energy generation capacity.<\/p>\n\n

Expansion of Deep Wind with floating offshore wind farm<\/h2>\n\n

It is relevant to note that this is the second application submitted by Deep Wind Offshore for offshore wind energy projects in Sweden. The first, for a fixed-bottom offshore wind farm called Olof Sk\u00f6tkonung in the Sea of Bothnia, was sent to the government and the provincial board of Uppsala.<\/p>\n\n

Finally, the CEO of \n Deep Wind Offshore<\/strong>\n<\/a>Knut Vassbotn, expressed his satisfaction after three years of presence in the Swedish market, highlighting the achievement of having submitted applications for a fixed and a floating bottom project.<\/p>\n\n

“We have already reached a major milestone in the first project, which confirms our strong project pipeline,” said Vassbotn.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n
