Lines Ltd. signed an agreement to equip the fuel carrier KUROTAKISAN MARU III with the innovative <strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/the-first-freighter-in-the-world-equipped-with-the-wind-challenger-began-operations\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"56793\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wind Challenger<\/a> wind propulsion system<\/strong>. This vessel was completed in December 2021 and will have this system from <strong>the second half of 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First adaptation of the Wind Challenger on a ship<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Importantly, <strong>this will be the first time in the world that the Wind Challenger will be installed on an existing vessel<\/strong>. This system, which employs a retractable and extendable rigid sail to harness wind energy, transforming it into propulsive power, promises to improve the ship&#8217;s energy efficiency significantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is estimated that this technology will reduce fuel consumption and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/itles-and-greenhouse-effect-gases\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"158161\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">greenhouse gas emissions<\/a><\/strong> between 5% and 8%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Energy efficiency at sea<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is not the first time that J-Power has equipped a  <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/the-largest-lng-transport-bunker-ship-in-the-world-begins-operations\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"60622\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">transport vessel<\/a> <\/strong>In addition, the company has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to improving fuel efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions through the installation of advanced systems on its vessels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This project aligns with the company&#8217;s mission to achieve carbon neutrality, as outlined in its &#8220;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpower.co.jp\/english\/ir\/library\/pdf\/2022\/22_08_e.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">J-POWER BLUE MISSION 2050<\/a><\/strong>&#8221; announced in February 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The implementation of the <strong>Wind Challenger system<\/strong> on the KUROTAKISAN MARU III could inspire other shipping companies to consider adopting similar technologies.
