The small “wall-climbing robot” designed for ship inspection and maintenance has successfully completed a demonstration test. This robot is the product of a joint creation of Mitsui OSK Lines, Sumitomo Heavy Industries and MOL Ship Management<\/strong> , supported by Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) through its innovation certification program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This device is capable of navigating both vertical and curved surfaces, accessing hard-to-reach areas, and making accurate measurements down to 0.01 mm<\/strong> , eliminating the need for scaffolding and reducing operational risks and construction costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to improving safety in ship inspection<\/a><\/strong> , the robot can operate in confined spaces<\/strong> , decreasing the risks associated with oxygen deficiency. In the following video, we can see that the demonstration includes navigation tests and obtaining images and measurements in the hold of a ship<\/strong> , highlighting the robot’s ability to perform tasks that would be complicated for more conventional models.<\/p>\n\n\n
