MAN Energy Solutions has announced an order for three MAN 6L21\/31DF-M (dual fuel-methanol) GenSets for a new 7,990 dwt OMI Type II chemical tanker to support maritime decarbonisation. These engines will play and provide a positive contribution to the decarbonization of maritime transport, operating with methanol as a cleaner and more ecological alternative fuel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A dual-fuel-methanol engine with efficient propulsion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The MAN 6L21\/31DF-M engines will be integrated into a diesel-electric propulsion system on board the ship, driving two fixed-pitch propellers through gearboxes. A battery storage system<\/a><\/strong> will optimize the use of dual-fuel generators, ensuring efficient and sustainable operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The engines will be built by CMP<\/strong> , an engine manufacturing division of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), licensee of MAN Energy Solutions. Delivery of the vessel is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new tanker will operate at the Port of Singapore under contract to deliver marine fuels<\/strong> . The port is drawing up plans to ensure a constant supply of methanol from 2025, meeting the needs of ships fueled with this alternative fuel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bjarne Foldager, Country Director of MAN Energy Solutions in Denmark, highlighted the importance of this project for maritime decarbonisation: “Our reliable MAN L21\/31 GenSets on these ships, such as a methanol-fueled version, are proof that maritime decarbonization is an alternative to consider for shipowners across all vessel segments and sizes.<\/em>“.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thomas S. Hansen, Director of Sales and Promotion at MAN Energy Solutions<\/a><\/strong> , emphasized the characteristics of the MAN L21\/31DF-M engine: “The MAN L21\/31 engine is well established on the market and has accumulated around 2,750 sales. Its reliability and efficiency position it as the preferred medium-speed, small-diameter motor for GenSet and diesel-electric propulsion solutions, meeting market demands to balance both CAPEX and OPEX.<\/em>“.<\/p>\n\n\n
