{"id":145382,"date":"2024-04-12T15:34:31","date_gmt":"2024-04-12T19:34:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/noticias\/mitsubishi-shipbuilding-logra-aip-system\/"},"modified":"2024-04-12T15:35:03","modified_gmt":"2024-04-12T20:05:03","slug":"mitsubishi-shipbuilding-logra-aip-system","status":"publish","type":"noticias","link":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/mitsubishi-shipbuilding-logra-aip-system\/","title":{"rendered":"Mitsubishi Shipbuilding achieves AiP for ammonia system in marine engines"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Recently, <strong>the Mitsubishi Shipbuilding division achieved AiP<\/strong>, an initial approval by the Japanese classification society ClassNK.<\/p>\n\n<p>This recognition was awarded for the innovative Ammonia-Fueled Marine Engine Supply System (AFSS) designed and powered by ammonia to increase performance and operability.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mitsubishi Shipbuilding achieves AiP<\/h2>\n\n<p>This specific AiP is favorable for the AFSS created for the X-DF-A engine, an <strong>advanced two-stroke ammonia-fueled engine currently under development by WinGD<\/strong>, a Swiss company specialized in the creation and licensing of large marine engines.<\/p>\n\n<p>As of June 2023, <strong>Mitsubishi Shipbuilding has been collaborating with <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wingd.com\/en\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.wingd.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\n  <strong>WinGD<\/strong>\n<\/a> under a memorandum of understanding to jointly explore AFSS capabilities. The purpose of this alliance is to contribute to meeting the <strong>goals of the International Maritime Organization<\/strong>, which aims to eliminate net greenhouse gas emissions in the maritime industry by 2050.<\/p>\n\n<p>Collaborative efforts culminated in February 2024 with the preliminary design of an AFSS suitable for the X-DF-A engine. In addition to the AiP approval,<strong> a new ammonia gas abatement system (AGAS)<\/strong> has been validated.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The multiple functions of ammonia for Mitsubishi<\/h2>\n\n<p>Ammonia is emerging as a promising fuel because of<strong> its CO\u2082-free combustion capacity,<\/strong> representing a viable alternative to <a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/co2-emissions-could-fall-this-year\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"115936\">\n  <strong>emissions in the maritime sector.<\/strong>\n<\/a> emissions in the maritime sector.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mhi.com\/group\/mhimsb\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.mhi.com\/group\/mhimsb\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mitsubishi Shipbuilding<\/a>\n<\/strong> plans to further develop and refine marine systems for ammonia handling, including those for<strong> engine fueling and other gas abatement systems<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p>In addition, the company is committed to decarbonizing maritime economic activity, through proposals and technology solutions for vessels as well as plants.
