{"id":143379,"date":"2024-04-06T13:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-04-06T17:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/?p=143379"},"modified":"2024-04-05T15:14:20","modified_gmt":"2024-04-05T19:44:20","slug":"safety-in-supply-from-gnl-a-japan","status":"publish","type":"noticias","link":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/safety-in-supply-from-gnl-a-japan\/","title":{"rendered":"JBIC finances security of LNG supply to Japan"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In order to <strong>improve the security of LNG supply to Japan<\/strong>, the State Bank of Japan for International Cooperation (JBIC) has agreed to provide financing to the trading firm Trafigura.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The relevant LNG supply to Japan<\/h2>\n\n<p>The agreement, reached on March 28, involves a loan of up to $390 million by the <strong>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jbic.go.jp\/en\/index.html\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.jbic.go.jp\/en\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">JBIC<\/a>\n<\/strong>with co-financing from Japan&#8217;s Sumitomo Mitsui Banking, bringing the total funds to approximately US$560 million.<\/p>\n\n<p>This funding is aimed at providing the necessary resources for utilities in Japan to import <strong>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/tanzania-equinor-and-shell-to-sign-key-deals-for-lng-projects\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"59995\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">long-term LNG supplies through Trafigura.<\/a>\n<\/strong> through Trafigura. LNG demand in Japan has shown a downward trend, due to the gradual increase in nuclear and renewable energy capacity.  <\/p>\n\n<p>In 2023, the country imported 66 million tons of LNG, a reduction of 8% compared to the previous year. Despite this decline,<strong> LNG remains crucial to Japan&#8217;s energy security<\/strong>, especially during its transition to a net-zero emissions future by 2050.<\/p>\n\n<p>Japan&#8217;s installed gas-fired capacity is also forecast to increase significantly, reaching 83.54 GW for the fiscal year covering April 2033 to March 2034, according to data from the <strong>Organization for Interregional Coordination of Transmission Operators<\/strong>.
