Aberdeen Harbour is keen to become a hub for floating offshore wind,<\/strong> with the South Harbour upgrade project moving towards “priority” Stage 2. In this way, meeting the strategic investment demand of the Scottish Offshore Wind Energy Council (SOWEC).<\/p>\n\n

Improvements to the floating wind project<\/h2>\n\n

This strategic upgrade includes a dredging project that will deepen 750 meters of dock to -14.5 meters map reference, facilitating the installation of most of the turbine designs<\/strong> associated with the ScotWind and INTOG projects.<\/p>\n\n

The expansion of South Harbour<\/strong>, combined with its capacity to handle ultra-heavy cargoes, will enable the integration and assembly of turbines and foundations<\/strong>, while preparing the port for significant future operations, including the handling and transportation of critical components.<\/p>\n\n

In addition, Scotland’s largest mooring port, it plays a crucial role in the offshore wind industry. \n offshore wind industry<\/a>\n<\/strong>having handled more than 700 vessels related to this renewable energy last year.<\/p>\n\n

Aberdeen Port’s participation and SOWEC<\/h2>\n\n

Its strategic location, close to the majority of ScotWind licenses and next to the world’s first Floating Offshore Wind Innovation Centre<\/strong>, together with the planned Energy Transition Zone Ltd, underlines Aberdeen’s importance on the renewable energy map.<\/p>\n\n

This progress reflects the Scottish government’s and industry’s confidence in the \u20ac420 million project, as well as the region’s commitment to the future of renewable energy, ensuring the Aberdeen Port<\/strong><\/a> and northeast Scotland remain leaders in the renewable energy supply chain.<\/p>\n\n
