At a recent presentation, Airbus unveiled its latest transport, the CityAirbus NextGen<\/strong>, an electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft<\/strong>, marking a significant milestone ahead of its expected first flight, scheduled for later this year.<\/p>\n\n

This aerial vehicle weighs two tons and boasts a wingspan of 12 meters, it is capable of covering distances of up to 80 km at a cruising speed of 120 km\/h. This four-seat aircraft, whose design was introduced in 2019, represents an evolution from previous initiatives to create “an ideal air cab” based on the research, safety and development efforts of the Vahana project.<\/p>\n\n

CityAirbus NextGen: a promising air transport system<\/h2>\n\n

At the presentation of this prototype, Airbus inaugurated its test center in Donauw\u00f6rth, Germany, specifically designed to test the CityAirbus systems. This center is a fundamental pillar in the development process of these aircraft.<\/p>\n\n

The construction process for this test center began in July 2022, affirming Donauw\u00f6rth as an essential hub in Airbus helicopter production and technology development in Germany, where models such as the H135 and H145 light helicopters<\/strong> are already produced.<\/p>\n\n

Since December 2023, this center has been fully operational, kicking off a series of soil tests that will be extended in the coming months. These tests will focus on evaluating the electric motors and its eight rotors, as well as other critical components such as flight controls and avionics, setting the stage for the prototype’s first flight. \n first flight of the prototype<\/strong>\n<\/a>.<\/p>\n
