Brazil’s ECB Group has been selected to use Honeywell’s UOP Ecofining\u2122 process in the production of renewable diesel and jet fuel at the Omega Green biorefinery<\/strong> facility in Villeta, near Asunci\u00f3n. This project not only represents the first advanced biofuels effort in Paraguay, but also stands out as the largest private investment in the country’s history.<\/p>\n\n

Honeywell UOP has been chosen to provide the technology and engineering services for this project, which focuses on the production of fuels that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. \n greenhouse gas emissions<\/a>\n<\/strong>. The Omega Green project<\/strong> design aims to minimize fossil CO\u2082 emissions by using renewable LPG and naphtha produced in the UOP Ecofining unit to self-supply the process in terms of energy and hydrogen.<\/p>\n\n

In collaboration with Wood, a global consulting and engineering firm, Honeywell UOP will integrate Wood’s hydrogen plant technology with the Ecofining unit designed to produce hydrogen from renewable feedstocks. This will contribute to further reducing the carbon intensity <\/strong>of Honeywell green diesel and Honeywell green jet fuel.<\/p>\n\n

About production at the Omega Green biorefinery<\/h2>\n\n

Once operational, Omega Green will produce up to 20,000 barrels per day of renewable diesel and jet fuel<\/strong>. Ben Owens, vice president and general manager of Honeywell Sustainable Technology Solutions, highlighted the importance of this project as a significant milestone in meeting the growing global demand for diesel and jet fuel from domestic renewable resources.<\/p>\n\n

The UOP Ecofining process is currently used in four operating commercial refineries, including two in the U.S. and two in Europe. The hydrogen integration in cooperation with Wood will be a one-of-a-kind facility at the ECB site.<\/p>\n\n

Erasmo Carlos Battistella, CEO of the ECB Group, emphasized that the Omega Green project will have the most advanced technology for the industrial process of renewable diesel and aero-renewable kerosene, as well as green naphtha. The collaboration with Honeywell is fundamental to the success of this initiative in Paraguay.<\/p>\n\n

Likewise, Honeywell’s Ecofining process, developed in conjunction with Eni SpA, converts inedible natural oils, animal fats and other wastes into Honeywell green diesel and Honeywell green jet fuel, which are chemically identical to their petroleum-based counterparts<\/strong>. These products offer improved performance over diesel and commercial petroleum-based jet fuel and can be used as direct replacements in vehicles and aircraft without equipment modifications.<\/p>\n\n

The Omega Green initiative in Paraguay illustrates the transformative potential of biofuels in reducing dependence on fossil fuels and moving towards a more sustainable energy future.<\/p>\n\n
