In addition, offshore CO\u2082 storage will be allowed, while maintaining the prohibition of subway storage on land, which reaffirms a selective approach to different carbon management modalities.<\/p>\n\n “With this strategic, pragmatic and responsible measure, we are making the implementation of CCS and CCU possible in Germany<\/em>,” said Economics Minister Robert Habeck in Berlin. “Without these technologies, achieving our climate targets would be unfeasible<\/em>.” Habeck emphasized that the adoption of carbon capture and storage solutions is crucial not only for the climate agenda, but also for maintaining Germany’s competitiveness.<\/p>\n\n Habeck noted that the CCS will act as a necessary complement to existing climate policies, which prioritize emissions prevention. This includes the promotion of renewable energies, the phasing out of fossil fuels, the development of a hydrogen-based economy and energy efficiency.
