The Cuenca Marina Austral 1 (CMA 1)<\/strong> consortium, formed by TotalEnergies, Wintershall Dea and Pan American Energy, has successfully completed the installation of the F\u00e9nix offshore platform<\/strong>, located off the coast of Tierra del Fuego. This project aims to start natural gas production <\/strong>by the end of this year, promising to provide significant volumes of this energy resource to Argentina for more than 15 years.<\/p>\n\n

Located approximately 60 km off the coast of Tierra del Fuego, the F\u00e9nix offshore platform has been completed by TotalEnergies (as operator), Wintershall Dea and Pan American Energy. Initial gas production is expected to begin in November of this year, according to the consortium.<\/p>\n\n

Manfred Boeckmann, CEO of Wintershall Dea Argentina, highlighted that the successful completion of the installation of the production platform represents a significant step forward for the development of the F\u00e9nix field, keeping the project on track to achieve first gas extraction in the last quarter of 2024.<\/p>\n\n

It is important to mention that F\u00e9nix is emerging as a crucial component for increasing domestic gas production<\/strong>, helping to meet growing demand and reduce gas imports, thus providing a sustainable and long-term energy supply for the country.<\/p>\n\n

About the installation of the F\u00e9nix offshore platform<\/h2>\n\n

The installation of the platform, which weighs 4,800 tons<\/strong>, was executed in two stages: the placement of the support with four piles in January, followed by the successful erection of the 1,500-tonne upper deck. The deck was transported from the Rosetti Marino shipyard in Italy to Tierra del Fuego in one month aboard the heavy lift vessel HTV Interocean II, with four vessels participating in the installation of the platform, led by Heerema’s heavy lift vessel Aegir.<\/p>\n\n

Wintershall Dea assured that all work was completed safely<\/strong> and without incident. The F\u00e9nix platform, which covers an area of 2,500m2<\/sup> distributed over five levels, includes a heliport and is designed to be operated remotely without the need for a permanent crew on board.<\/p>\n\n

Mariano Cancelo, Vice President of Production and Development of Wintershall Dea Argentina, said that with the installation of the platform, the surface installation phase of the F\u00e9nix project has been completed, according to the established schedule. The next step will be the drilling of three production wells<\/a><\/strong> with a jack-up drilling rig, which will be temporarily located next to F\u00e9nix.<\/p>\n\n
