SOVs perform multiple functions, acting as a transport vessel, accommodation, warehouse and workshop, which presents a challenge when assessing overall efficiency.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Technology for SOV data analysis<\/h2>\n\n<p>Esvagt&#8217;s initiative led Metis to develop a portfolio of applications aimed at improving SOV operations. Leveraging Esvagt&#8217;s operational expertise and data, Metis used its high-frequency data acquisition and advanced performance assessment analytics to provide transparency into SOV performance.<\/p>\n\n<p>Panos Theodossopoulos, CEO of Metis Cyberspace Technology, noted that the result is an exciting example of how advanced analytics can provide a competitive advantage, in this case, creating the opportunity for SOVs to offer value-added services to end customers.<\/p>\n\n<p>Metis has also developed a way to visualize SOV operations that correlates the full range of vessel activities with fuel efficiency and emissions in the context of a five-day weather forecast, Theodossopoulos added.<\/p>\n\n<p>Features include a new representation of total fuel oil consumption per activity in multiple scenarios, which takes into account different weather conditions. The enhanced software functionality also introduces a high level of transparency in dynamic positioning (DP) operations, considering that DP systems play a critical role in maintaining positions and ensuring the safe transfer of technicians to offshore facilities via walk-to-work gateways.<\/p>\n\n<p>In addition, Metis&#8217; new functionality leverages weather forecast and vessel performance data to help site managers and vessel operators plan maintenance more effectively.
