Shell Offshore Inc., a subsidiary of British energy company Shell<\/a><\/strong> , has completed the acquisition of the remaining 20% \u200b\u200bin the deepwater Kaikias field in the Gulf of Mexico, United States<\/strong> . This field has been developed through a submarine link with the nearby production of the Ursa center.<\/p>\n\n The 20% interest, previously owned by MOEX North America LLC (MOEX), a subsidiary of Mitsui & Co., Ltd., has been acquired by Shell, increasing its total interest in the asset to 100%<\/strong> . Shell will continue to operate the field and an application for federal regulatory approval will be submitted to formalize the transaction.<\/p>\n\n Rich Howe, executive vice president of deepwater at Shell, commented: \u201cSince its discovery, the Kaikias field has been a productive investment. By increasing Shell’s employment interest in this field, we are creating options for our future as a leading producer in the US Gulf of Mexico<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n The prominent oil company notes that this investment underscores its long-term commitment to the Gulf of Mexico in the United States, where production is considered essential to ensure a reliable and secure energy supply. It is noted that production in the US Gulf of Mexico has some of the lowest greenhouse gas<\/a><\/strong> intensities in the world for Scope 1 and 2 emissions.<\/p>\n\n Discovered in 2014, the Kaikias field is located in the prolific Mars-Osa basin, approximately 130 miles off the coast of Louisiana. Production began in May 2018. Shell<\/strong> has been active in various projects not only in the United States, but also globally.<\/p>\n\n Recently, Boskalis’ largest semi-submersible heavy transport vessel carried Shell’s new floating production unit (FPU) destined for the oil company’s next project in the US Gulf of Mexico, scheduled to begin operations next year . The vessel, carrying the 25,000-tonne FPU, arrived in Ingleside, United States.<\/p>\n\n In addition, the prominent oil company announced a new gas discovery in an offshore block in Egypt’s Mediterranean Sea in November 2023.
