This device has an appearance that could be described as a cross between a dragonfly and a robin.

How does X-Fly work?

Similar to its predecessor (the MetaFly), the X-Fly incorporates a carbon fiber frame, along with a spring-loaded head and legs, giving it resistance to impacts and harsh landings. Notable improvements include a larger wingspan for improved gliding performance, an improved flapping mechanism that facilitates safe passage through indoor and narrow spaces, and gyroscopic and G-force sensors developed in collaboration with the French Army’s Research and Development program. .

Notably, built-in sensors continuously adjust the direction of the X-Fly to maintain straight flight, while preventing the device from shutting down when the user turns it excessively.

As for steering, the X-Fly offers the additional option of control via a new iOS/Android app on a smartphone, using the Bluetooth connection. The app features three control modes, two of which allow one-handed operation by combining tilting the phone and tapping an on-screen touch control. Likewise, buyers have the option of choosing a dual-joystick remote control that connects to the phone.

The power source is a lithium polymer battery with a capacity of 55 mAh/3.7 V, designed to provide between eight and 12 minutes of flight time per 12-minute charging period. This is removable and can be replaced with an additional fully charged battery.

Similarly, the flight speed is adjusted by modifying the angle of the tail, fluctuating between 5 and 20 km/h. The aircraft is capable of handling wind speeds of up to 20 km/h and has a wireless control range of 100 meters. Should the X-Fly be produced, it could cost around $85.

Don’t miss any of our posts and follow us on social media!

Inspenet.com YouTube LinkedIn Facebook Instagram

Source: newatlas.com

Inspenet, December 16, 2023.
Four years after introducing MetaFly, the remote-controlled flying insect, French startup Bionic Bird has launched the new and improved X-Fly.
