These bacteria are resistant and can survive in conditions similar to those on Mars, suggesting a potential sustainable use of this biological paint in contexts beyond our planet.<\/p>\n\n<p>Microbiologist Simone Krings led the team of scientists that developed this novel solution, whose findings were published in the journal <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/journals.asm.org\/journal\/spectrum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Microbiology Spectrum<\/a><\/strong> . With growing concern about the increase in greenhouse gases and the resulting climate crisis, these researchers dedicated themselves to finding a new way to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the environment.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A new way to produce oxygen on Mars<\/h2>\n\n<p>Over a 30-day period, the researchers observed that this biolining consistently released about 0.4 grams of oxygen per gram of biomass, while absorbing carbon dioxide.<\/p>\n\n<p>Although this solution cannot yet be considered to provide the necessary conditions to establish a habitat on Mars, it represents a significant advance in reducing the amount of oxygen that space missions must transport.
