NEXT Energy Technologies has presented a proposal for integrating renewable energy with the manufacture of the world’s largest transparent organic photovoltaic window ( OPV ) with a high profitability impact.
The innovation behind the transparent photovoltaic window
At its Santa Barbara, California headquarters, the company has completed an upgrade to its pilot production line, successfully manufacturing 40″ x 60″ laminated windows using its OPV coating technology, enabling the generation of electricity.
This development is based on a highly efficient organic photovoltaic coating , which is applied to glass without compromising its aesthetics or functionality. In addition, the technology is designed to integrate seamlessly into the commercial glass sector supply chain, facilitating its large-scale adoption.
Buildings with facades fitted with NEXT OPV windows can reduce their energy demand by up to 25%. At the same time, the coating absorbs infrared light, helping to improve the efficiency of HVAC systems and reduce operating costs.
The combination of top-quality aesthetics, energy generation and integration with the glass supply chain is a step change in the effort to design net-zero emissions buildings.

Towards commercialization and certifications
The company is currently preparing for demonstration trials with strategic partners in the United States and Europe, while moving towards commercial-scale production. Furthermore, one of its main objectives is to obtain UL certification for safety and performance to ensure its use in buildings connected to the electrical grid.
This milestone is further proof to an industry hungry for a solution that our combination of OPV coatings and advanced manufacturing processing is working, scaling and can be rapidly deployed.
