Gustavo Romero, an expert in asset management and integrity, gave the topic: Stages and challenges in asset corrosion management systems, continuing with the cycle of free webinars for all our users.

Romero is a chemical engineer with a master’s degree in corrosion of materials, with more than 18 years of experience in the oil and gas industry in the area of integrity, inspection and maintenance of offshore and onshore facilities, he currently serves as director for Latin America of the Penspen Corporation.

In this webinar, Romero shares his experience for asset owners or managers. Why is it important to manage corrosion? “I always like to give an answer that I have learned over the years; and it is: it depends. Because it really depends on the asset, it depends on what we want the asset for and it depends on where the asset is and there is even a financial issue associated with what we can and cannot do.”

The expert adds: “We always think of corrosion as a negative impact, but sometimes we need it, and I like to show these examples of some structures that I have been studying over the years, which are made of different material but have a characteristic, by the same oxidation process, they can generate a passive film, and generally those passive films that help to mitigate the rate of corrosion, so much so that it can last for many years. That is, passivation has been like a coating of the structure. In some cases this passivation helps me to make the structure much more attractive”.

If you want to know what are the structures Romero is talking about, as well as the economic impact of corrosion, asset life time, regulations, relationship between the corrosion management system and the integrity system, among other interesting topics ; We invite you to enter our YouTube channel Inspenet at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Y0Fr4UUSV0&t=2103s
