The new Director General of the AMPP, Alan Thomas, together with the outgoing Director General, Bob Chalker, gave an exclusive interview to Inspenet, during the AMPP 2023 Annual Conference and Exhibition, which takes place from Sunday at the Denver Convention Center and will run until tomorrow, Thursday, March 23.
Chalker explained that he has been with AMPP for 13 years. The preparation work for the events is done a couple of years in advance, so they have already started with the plan for the 2024 conference.
“ I’m really excited about this year’s conference because it’s even bigger and has a lot more items and exhibits than we had before Covid, so this was the expo we envisioned when we merged to create AMPP,” Chalker explained.
“This year we have 700 people registered from the international community that we have, I just checked minutes ago we have 5500 people registered as we sit here today and that is still growing, it is a success and it really takes a huge amount of work from both staff and volunteers to make it successful. We are still expecting 6,000 people and there are more than 400 exhibiting and sponsoring companies, there are several hundred works presented. A target is set for each event in different categories, we have exceeded each and every expectation this year so we are delighted,” added Chalker.
For his part, the new CEO, Alan Thomas, who will start his functions on April 1, commented on his experience in the area of corrosion: “My background is a mixture of association management. I have worked in the association field for about 15 – 16 years in a leadership role and then I went into the private sector and have worked in different private industries, but most importantly, what I like to bring to members is that I owned and operated a coatings company for about seven years, so I know firsthand what a lot of our members deal with, from a compliance standpoint.”
And he added: “I sincerely believe that my purpose is to be here. I’ve never felt more welcome here, to be able to serve and to add as much value as I can with AMPP…I’m in the right place at the right time and I look forward to carrying on Bob’s traditions.”
